Welcome to A Rocha India! [pronounced as ‘a – roach – a’ /ə ˈroʊʧ ə/ in Portuguese]. We are a public charity working towards the conservation of nature & wildlife through research, education, outreach and sustainability.

Who We Are

Operating in 22 countries across 5 continents, we are part of an international network of organisations working to address the global biodiversity and climate crisis. The A Rocha family is committed to four ‘C’s: Conservation, Cultural Diversity, Community, and Collaboration. Together, we aim to create a sustainable future for both humans and wildlife.

Key Conservation Issues

We address key conservation issues across southern India such as biodiversity loss, wildlife management and human-wildlife interactions; with a focus on the conservation of the Asian elephant and its habitats. Our work incorporates the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 as well as the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Since 2003, we have contributed to the conservation of our focal area, the Bannerghatta – Hosur Landscape in southern India. This landscape is located between the states of south Karnataka and north Tamil Nadu and is part of the ecologically sensitive Eastern Ghats landscape which contains a diversity of threatened wildlife species and a host of indigenous communities.

Structural Pillars

We work through 5 structural pillars which focus on the practices of ‘Sustainable Conservation and Community Empowermentand highlights a holistic approach to conservation and community development.

Land-Use Management: Addressing concerns related to land-use changes by promoting sustainable practices and conservation efforts.

Policy Influence and Governance: Aiding management and governance by influencing policy decisions through research, advocacy, and collaboration with stakeholders.
