Farming

Commercial farming has devastating effects on the ecosystem and especially soil health and this inturn affects the entire biotic system.

To preserve the integrity of our landscape, especially since it is an eco-sensitive zone EZA link –  we have instituted an organic farming project which seeks to handhold 30 farmers to transition from habitat degrading commercial farming practices to more sustainable, earth-friendly and sustainable farming practices. We provide seed and manure to willing farmers. We organize several workshops, focus group discussions, capacity building field visits and teach them sowing and manure making techniques to set them up for success. Farmers are also informed regarding government policies, aid and certifications available for organic farmers. We also network to create a sustainable supply chain for the produce once it is ready for harvest.

We provide consultations for local agricultural communities as well as individual land-holders towards mitigating conflict. Surveys are conducted to assess the lands that are susceptible to elephant intrusions and suitable long and short term mitigation measures are recommended, along with possible suggestions of suitable barrier mechanisms.
