Community

An estimated 275 million people in India still rely on forests for their livelihood and sustenance.

66% of India still lives in rural settings where dependence on forest resources is quite common. Park-edge communities rely on ancient practices for their livelihoods, which have sustained them for generations. By recognizing farmers and other communities as key stakeholders in the conservation narrative, we focus on enhancing their capacity and strengthening their support systems. Our efforts include providing alternative livelihoods and promoting sustainable practices that benefit both these communities and the environment they inhabit.

We also provide support to the frontline forest staff, who are the first responders to conflict situations. This includes providing essential equipment and gear to support their on-field duty, mobilizing resources for staff that are unwell or injured in the line of duty, and creating a martyr fund for those who have lost their lives to Human-elephant conflict (HEC).

All of our interventions are based on research, interactions and a long term relationship with members of the community. Our programs focus on offering alternate livelihoods to forest dependent communities alleviating the stress of human-wildlife conflict and the negative impacts of climate crisis on the agrarian community.
