Sustainable livelihoods

Providing alternative means of livelihoods for communities that are directly dependent on forest resources is an important conservation measure.

Due to our established presence in the Bannerghatta Hosur landscape, we have been able to gauge the needs of the local community based on recorded evidence. We use this data to drive change in the upliftment of these communities.

Some of our initiatives to augment livelihoods include:

Bee farming: we provide beehive boxes to local villagers as a means to increase livelihood opportunities.

Training craftsmen: we train local communities to use lantana – a gregarious invasive weed – to create artifacts and furniture which can be sold for a profit.

Vocational training: We link individuals from park-edge villages to skill building vocational training programs and hands on resources for alternate livelihood means.
