Community

An estimated 275 million people still rely on forests for their livelihood and sustenance.

66% of India still lives in rural settings where dependence on forest resources is quite common.Park-edge communities are dependent on ancient practices for their livelihood. These options are currently not sustainable and require support in mobilizing their survival while breaking their poverty cycle. Identifying these communities, especially farmers, as major stakeholders in the conservation narrative, we work towards building their capacity and strengthening their support systems, providing alternative livelihoods and sustainable practices which benefit them and the environment they live in.
We also provide support to the frontline forest staff, who are the first responders to conflict situations. This includes providing essential equipment and gear to support their rigorous on-field duty, mobilizing resources for staff that are ill or injured in the line of duty and creating a martyr fund for those who have lost their lives to HEC.
